Chelsea agree €25m Pep Chavarría transfer after Rayo Vallecano breakthrough

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Rayo Vallecano to sign left-back Pep Chavarría in a deal worth €25 million plus bonuses, according to reports in Spain.

Marca claims the two clubs have agreed the framework of the transfer, with only the final details still to be completed before the 28-year-old officially joins the Blues.

The reported fee is significantly below Chavarría's €50 million release clause, with Chelsea successfully negotiating a lower package despite the defender signing a contract extension until 2030 only last summer.

Chavarría is expected to replace Marc Cucurella, who has completed a move to Real Madrid during the current transfer window.

The Spaniard enjoyed an impressive campaign with Rayo Vallecano, establishing himself as one of the club's standout performers and attracting interest from several clubs following a consistent season in La Liga.

According to the report, Chavarría is already in London to complete the formalities of the transfer before being unveiled as Chelsea's latest summer signing.

The left-back made 44 appearances in all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign, contributing one goal and three assists.

He also helped Rayo Vallecano reach the UEFA Conference League final, further enhancing his reputation before Chelsea stepped up their pursuit.

Although the defender committed his future to the Madrid club with a long-term contract extension last year, Chelsea's offer has reportedly convinced Rayo Vallecano to sanction his departure.

Chelsea are expected to complete the remaining paperwork and medical before officially announcing Chavarría's arrival. Once the deal is finalised, the Spanish defender will join Xabi Alonso's squad as the club continue preparations for the new Premier League season.
