Newcastle United are reportedly preparing for the possible departure of Bruno Guimarães by identifying Inter Milan midfielder Petar Sučić as a potential replacement, with Arsenal edging closer to an agreement for the Brazil international.

Bruno Guimarães has been one of the biggest names linked with a move during the summer transfer window, Arsenal are making progress in their efforts to complete a deal.

While Newcastle have maintained that no formal club-to-club negotiations have taken place, the report claims discussions through intermediaries have advanced and optimism is growing that an agreement can soon be reached.

Arsenal closing in on Guimarães agreement

Newcastle were initially seeking a fee comparable to the package that saw Sandro Tonali join Tottenham for an initial £92 million.

However, Standard Sport reports that the two clubs are now closing in on a compromise worth between £75 million and £80 million.

Should the transfer be completed, it would mark the end of Guimarães' spell as Newcastle captain and leave Eddie Howe's side needing to replace one of their most influential midfielders.

Newcastle turn attention to Petar Sučić

According to Corriere dello Sport, Newcastle have identified Inter Milan midfielder Petar Sučić as a leading candidate to fill that void.

The Magpies are reportedly prepared to submit an offer worth between €35 million and €40 million for the Croatia international, who is also attracting interest from Leeds United.

Inter, however, are reluctant to sell the 22-year-old and currently value him at around €45 million.

Newcastle are nevertheless expected to test the Italian club's resolve if Guimarães completes his anticipated move to Arsenal.

Rising midfielder attracting Premier League interest

Sučić has emerged as one of Croatia's brightest young midfielders after an impressive season with Inter.

The 22-year-old made 54 appearances in all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign and also featured prominently for Croatia at the 2026 World Cup.

His performances included a goal against Arsenal in last season's Champions League, further enhancing his reputation ahead of the current transfer window.
