Roma submit improved Givairo Read bid as Feyenoord boss breaks silence

Roma have intensified their pursuit of Feyenoord full-back Givairo Read by submitting an improved offer, with negotiations continuing after the Dutch club rejected an initial proposal.

According to reports in Italy, the Serie A side have returned with a package worth €25 million plus €3 million in bonuses as they attempt to secure one of Gian Piero Gasperini's priority targets before the transfer window closes.

The 19-year-old right-back has already agreed to join Roma, leaving the two clubs working to reach a final agreement.

Read started Feyenoord's friendly against Atalanta in the De Kuip Cup on Sunday, prompting questions over whether the transfer was still progressing.

After the match, head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst insisted the defender's inclusion should not be interpreted as a sign negotiations had stalled.

"The fact that Read started today doesn't mean an agreement with Roma isn't imminent."

Van Bronckhorst explained that he had received no indication before kick-off that the defender would be unavailable.

"He's still a Feyenoord player. The same applies to the other players. You wouldn't think, watching them, that they're focused on a transfer. They're giving everything."

Read played 74 minutes before being substituted and received warm applause from the Feyenoord supporters, with some reports suggesting it could have been one of his final appearances for the club.

Feyenoord previously rejected Roma's opening €25 million bid, but sporting director Tony D'Amico has quickly returned with an improved proposal.

According to Il Tempo, the latest offer is worth €25 million guaranteed, plus a further €3 million in performance-related bonuses.

Roma remain confident after securing the player's approval for the move, although Feyenoord have yet to confirm whether the revised package satisfies their valuation.

Strengthening at right-back remains one of Gasperini's priorities before the transfer window closes.

The Roma head coach is still understood to be targeting four additional signings, including two forwards, a defender and a right-sided player, with Read currently viewed as the preferred option for that role.

Roma and Feyenoord are expected to continue negotiations over the revised proposal in the coming days. With the player already keen on the move, the focus is now on whether the Dutch club accept the improved financial package or push for further concessions.
