Roma have identified Alejandro Garnacho and Diego Moreira as two of their priority targets this summer, with the club working on separate deals that would give Gian Piero Gasperini the dynamic left flank he wants ahead of their return to the Champions League.
The Giallorossi are exploring different approaches for each player, aware that negotiations with Chelsea and Strasbourg could define the next stage of their transfer window.
Roma pushing for Garnacho loan agreement
Garnacho has moved back towards the top of Roma's shortlist after falling out of favour at Chelsea, where he is no longer considered part of Xabi Alonso's plans.
Chelsea would prefer a permanent sale and are believed to value the Argentina international at around €50 million, but Roma are pursuing a different route. Their preference is an initial loan with an option to buy, similar to the structure they successfully used to sign Donyell Malen.
With no club yet matching Chelsea's asking price, Roma believe there is still room to convince the Blues to accept a more flexible deal later in the window.
The move also appeals to Garnacho, who is understood to be open to joining Roma. A reunion with fellow Argentine Paulo Dybala and the opportunity to work under Gasperini are viewed as major attractions as the winger looks to reignite a career that has stalled over the past two seasons.
Moreira talks continue as Roma close the gap
While Garnacho would add creativity in the final third, Roma also want greater athleticism at left-back.
Diego Moreira has emerged as Gasperini's preferred option after an impressive campaign with Strasbourg, although agreeing a fee remains the biggest hurdle.
The French club are asking for €40 million, but Roma are prepared to increase their offer to €35 million, with bonuses and a sell-on clause included to narrow the gap between the two clubs.
There is growing belief that a compromise can be reached.
Moreira is also keen on the move. Champions League football is a major incentive, while the switch to Rome would reportedly see him almost triple his current salary.
Gasperini sees the Belgian as a player capable of transforming the left side of his system, allowing Wesley to operate on the opposite flank and giving Roma genuine pace and attacking threat on both wings.
Friedkins set to return as Roma look to accelerate
Roma are expected to receive another boost next week with the return of the Friedkin ownership group to Trigoria.
Their arrival could prove significant as negotiations enter a decisive phase, particularly with two high-value deals requiring careful financial planning.
The club remain active in the market for reinforcements on the right side as well, but securing Garnacho and Moreira would represent a major statement ahead of a season that sees Roma return to Europe's biggest competition.
What happens next?
Roma will continue pushing Chelsea to accept a loan formula for Garnacho while trying to close the remaining gap with Strasbourg over Moreira's valuation. Both deals remain active, and the coming days could be crucial as the Friedkins return to oversee another important phase of the club's summer business.
Would Garnacho and Moreira be the perfect signings for Gasperini, or should Roma prioritise strengthening other areas of the squad first?
