Bayern deny Rodri approach as Barcelona push for Man City midfielder

Bayern Munich have reportedly distanced themselves from claims they attempted to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri this summer, with the Spain international instead edging closer to a return to La Liga.

The 30-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Etihad following another outstanding campaign, culminating in Spain's World Cup triumph and his Golden Ball award.

While Barcelona and Real Madrid continue to monitor his situation, German journalist Christian Falk insists Bayern were never involved in the race.

Reports in Spain suggested Bayern made contact with Rodri earlier in the transfer window before ending their interest.

However, Falk says those claims are inaccurate.

According to the Bild journalist, Bayern officials confirmed there were no negotiations with either Manchester City or the player's representatives.

Falk added that although Bayern admired Rodri in the past, the Bundesliga champions have no need to strengthen in his position and would also be unwilling to meet Manchester City's valuation.

City are reportedly seeking around €75 million, while Real Madrid's interest has so far fallen short of that figure.

With Bayern ruled out, Barcelona appear to be leading the race for Rodri's signature.

Reports suggest personal terms have already been agreed between the midfielder and the Catalan club, while negotiations with Manchester City have progressed in recent days.

Barcelona's opening proposal was reportedly rejected, but discussions are continuing and an improved offer worth more than €65 million is expected.

Should the two clubs agree a transfer fee, Rodri could complete a return to Spanish football after seven successful years in the Premier League.
