Manchester United have been offered the opportunity to sign Racing Santander left-back Jorge Salinas as Michael Carrick continues his search for defensive reinforcements ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Red Devils remain in the market for a left-back after accepting that a move for Newcastle United's Lewis Hall is unlikely. Fabrizio Romano reports that Salinas is among the players who have been presented to the club as United assess alternative options.

Salinas emerges as a candidate

Romano revealed that United are considering both established players and younger talents capable of developing into first-team regulars.

"Manchester United are still in the market for a left-back or left wing-back. Lewis Hall looks impossible because Newcastle don't want to sell."

He added that Salinas is one of several players who have recently been offered to the club.

The 19-year-old has also attracted interest from Atlético Madrid and Barcelona after an impressive breakthrough campaign in Spain.

Young defender impressing in Spain

Salinas played a key role in Racing Santander's promotion to La Liga last season and further enhanced his reputation by helping Spain win the UEFA European Under-19 Championship this summer.

His performances have earned widespread praise, with Racing sporting director Chema Aragón previously predicting the teenager is destined to play Champions League football.

Manchester United already have promising young left-backs in Patrick Dorgu, Harry Amass and Sergio León, but Carrick is believed to want greater competition for Luke Shaw, whose injury record has left the position short of reliable depth in recent seasons.

Whether United decide Salinas is ready to contribute immediately remains to be seen, but the Spanish youngster is now firmly on the club's radar.
