Tottenham secure Micky van de Ven with new deal after Liverpool interest

Tottenham Hotspur have ended speculation over Micky van de Ven's future after agreeing a new long-term contract with the Dutch defender, fending off interest from both Liverpool and Barcelona.

Spurs confirmed on Monday that the Netherlands international had signed a new deal, although the club did not disclose the contract length or financial terms. According to De Telegraaf, Van de Ven has committed to Tottenham until 2031 after the club stepped up negotiations in recent weeks.

Liverpool and Barcelona had both shown concrete interest in signing the 25-year-old after talks over a new contract stalled during the World Cup.

With Van de Ven's previous deal running until 2028, both clubs believed they could take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding his future.

The report claims the lack of progress frustrated the defender and also concerned head coach Roberto De Zerbi, prompting Tottenham to restart negotiations before rival clubs could make formal moves.

Tottenham's renewed efforts ultimately convinced Van de Ven to remain in North London.

According to De Telegraaf, Spurs launched a "last-ditch effort" to reach an agreement, offering the centre-back a lucrative five-year contract reportedly worth €75 million in total.

The deal would see Van de Ven earn around €15 million per season, making him Tottenham's highest-paid player.

Keeping Van de Ven represents a major boost for De Zerbi ahead of the new campaign, with the Dutchman regarded as one of the key figures in Tottenham's defence.

With Van de Ven's future now resolved, Tottenham can focus on strengthening other areas of Roberto De Zerbi's squad before the transfer window closes. Liverpool and Barcelona are also expected to turn their attention towards alternative defensive targets after missing out on the Dutch international.
