Chelsea confirm Filip Jorgensen exit as Pep Chavarria transfer nears

Chelsea have confirmed that goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen has joined sister club Strasbourg on a season-long loan, while Pep Chavarria is closing in on becoming the Blues' ninth signing of the summer.

The Denmark international departs Stamford Bridge in search of regular first-team football after struggling for opportunities since joining Chelsea two years ago.

Chelsea announced the loan move on Tuesday, praising Jorgensen's contribution during his time at the club.

The goalkeeper played an important role in Chelsea's UEFA Conference League triumph in 2025, starting all but one match during the successful campaign before also helping the Blues lift the FIFA Club World Cup later that year.

Last season, however, Jorgensen featured just 12 times across all competitions, prompting the decision to seek more regular football in Ligue 1.

Chelsea said in a statement they look forward to supporting the 23-year-old during his spell in France.

Jorgensen is unlikely to be the last player to leave this summer, with several first-team squad members still linked with moves away before the transfer window closes.

While Jorgensen departs, Chelsea are preparing to welcome Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria.

The Blues have been negotiating with the Spanish club for several weeks before reaching a breakthrough over a deal worth £16.2 million, with a further £1.7 million in potential add-ons.

A medical has reportedly been scheduled ahead of Chavarria's arrival, with the Spaniard expected to compete with Jorrel Hato for the left-back position following Marc Cucurella's departure.

The move would make Chavarria Chelsea's ninth signing of the summer as Xabi Alonso continues reshaping his squad ahead of the new season.

Chelsea are expected to complete Chavarria's medical and officially announce his arrival in the coming days. The club are also likely to sanction further departures as Xabi Alonso continues trimming his squad before the transfer deadline.
