Aston Villa are reportedly prepared to limit Alejandro Garnacho's appearances to avoid triggering a permanent transfer obligation in his loan agreement with Chelsea.

The 22-year-old Argentina international joined Unai Emery's side in July but has struggled to secure regular playing time at Villa Park.

Villa reconsider Garnacho's permanent move

According to Football Insider, Villa are increasingly reluctant to commit to signing Garnacho permanently unless his performances improve.

Chelsea confirmed that the season-long loan includes an obligation to buy if certain conditions are met.

The permanent fee is reportedly worth around £43million, with the clause believed to depend on Garnacho reaching an appearance threshold.

However, neither club has publicly disclosed the precise conditions.

Football Insider claims Villa could continue restricting the winger's involvement rather than risk activating the obligation.

Garnacho has made only limited substitute appearances, although he scored in a friendly against Sevilla during the international break.

Chelsea face possible summer decision

Chelsea signed Garnacho from Manchester United for £40million in August 2025.

He scored eight goals and registered four assists in 43 appearances during his debut season before moving to Villa.

The loan followed Morgan Rogers' £117million transfer from Villa to Chelsea, although the deals were separate transactions.

Villa encountered a similar situation with Liverpool loanee Harvey Elliott last season, when his playing time became a factor in discussions about a permanent transfer.

No decision to terminate Garnacho's current loan has been confirmed.

Key Points

  • Villa are reportedly reconsidering Garnacho's permanent signing.
  • His loan contains a conditional purchase obligation.
  • The reported fee is approximately £43million.
  • The winger has struggled for regular minutes under Emery.

What's Next?

Garnacho must compete for more opportunities at Villa Park, while Chelsea await clarity over whether the conditions for a permanent move will be met before next summer.
