Chelsea have been urged to consider Gessime Yassine's development carefully, with former Morocco international Salaheddine Bassir suggesting Brighton could offer the Strasbourg winger a better pathway.
The 20-year-old has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs after scoring twice and providing two assists in seven Ligue 1 appearances this season.
Bassir questions Chelsea move
Speaking to AfricaFoot, Bassir stressed that Yassine should prioritise regular football over joining a bigger club.
"Choosing the right club can be more important than the transfer fee or the prestige of the jersey," Bassir told Africa Foot.
"The Chelsea name alone doesn't automatically make it the best choice."
Chelsea and Strasbourg are both owned by BlueCo, giving the London club an established connection with Yassine's current employers.
However, Bassir believes competition for attacking places at Stamford Bridge could complicate the youngster's development.
Brighton and Newcastle offer alternatives
Brighton's reputation for developing young players makes them an attractive alternative, according to Bassir.
"If I had to compare Chelsea's prestige to the opportunities for progression in a club like Brighton, I would seriously consider the second option," he explained.
Bassir also identified Newcastle as a possible destination, provided the club could offer a suitable first-team role.
Brentford, Sunderland, Everton and Nottingham Forest have also reportedly monitored Yassine.
The Moroccan is contracted to Strasbourg until 2030, while reports suggest Chelsea could consider signing him in a future transfer window rather than immediately.
