Tottenham Hotspur winger Yang Min-hyeok has been challenged to improve his intensity in training and matches as he attempts to establish himself at Belgian club KVC Westerlo.

The 20-year-old South Korea international joined Westerlo on a season-long loan in August but has struggled for regular playing time.

Yang scores first Westerlo goal

Yang made an encouraging contribution on 11 October, scoring in stoppage time after coming off the bench during Westerlo's 5–1 victory over Royal Antwerp.

Speaking to Gazet van Antwerpen, he revealed how much the moment meant to those close to him.

"My friends and family from South Korea all sent me a message with that video," Yang said.

However, the Tottenham youngster has made only three Belgian league appearances, all as a substitute, totalling 55 minutes.

Charaï demands greater intensity

Westerlo manager Issame Charaï believes Yang must improve his intensity to earn more opportunities.

"I haven't seen enough of that intensity from Yang here so far. Not in training either," the Westerlo manager explained.

"He still needs to grow in that area."

Yang's pace and dribbling remain important strengths, but adapting to the demands of Belgian football has proved challenging.

He also featured in Westerlo's cup victory over Patro Eisden, starting the match before being substituted at half-time.

Tottenham youngster faces important loan spell

Yang arrived at Tottenham from Gangwon FC in January 2025 and subsequently spent time on loan at Queens Park Rangers, Portsmouth and Coventry City.

His move to Westerlo runs until the end of the 2026–27 season, giving him further time to develop away from North London.

Key Points

  • Charaï wants greater intensity from Yang.
  • The winger scored his first Westerlo goal against Antwerp.
  • He has played just 55 minutes across three league appearances.
  • His Westerlo loan runs until summer 2027.
