Bruno Guimarães reports for Newcastle as Arsenal transfer talks continue

Bruno Guimarães has reported for Newcastle United's pre-season training camp despite ongoing negotiations with Arsenal over a potential summer transfer.

The Brazil international joined up with his Newcastle teammates in La Manga on Monday after being granted an extended break following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His arrival comes amid reports that Arsenal's opening offer has been rejected, although talks between the two Premier League clubs remain ongoing.

Guimarães shared a photo from Newcastle's training camp on social media, underlining his commitment to the club while his future remains unresolved.

According to reports, there will be no repeat of last summer's situation involving Alexander Isak, with the Newcastle captain having no intention of refusing to report for duty in an attempt to force through a transfer.

Instead, Guimarães has returned as scheduled after Newcastle allowed him an extra day following his international commitments.

Arsenal are continuing discussions with Newcastle after seeing an opening bid rejected.

Earlier in the transfer window, the Gunners were understood to be working primarily through intermediaries, who believed a move for the midfielder could become possible.

However, the two clubs are now in direct contact as they attempt to reach an agreement.

While there remains a gap in valuation, Arsenal are not expected to abandon their pursuit of the 28-year-old.

Following Arsenal's 4-1 pre-season victory over Girona, Mikel Arteta hinted that further additions could soon arrive.

Without naming Guimarães directly, the Arsenal manager said:

"We are really active, trying to improve and evolve the team. That's clear."

He added: "We expect to have movements in the next few weeks because we want to get better like anybody else. We won't sit still. We are very ambitious in what we want to do."

Arsenal and Newcastle are expected to continue negotiations as they attempt to bridge the gap in valuation. Guimarães will continue preparing for the new season with Newcastle unless an agreement is reached before the transfer window closes.
