Leeds make serious push for €30m goalkeeper Zion Suzuki

Leeds United are reportedly preparing a new push to sign Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki as Ilan Meslier closes in on a free transfer to Arsenal.

The Whites have already held exploratory talks with Parma over the 23-year-old, but those discussions failed to produce a breakthrough. Leeds have not been discouraged and are now ready to renew their efforts.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Daniel Farke’s side are making a “serious push” for Suzuki despite competition from Juventus and other English clubs.

Leeds need to strengthen their goalkeeping department after losing both Meslier and Karl Darlow this summer.

Meslier has reportedly undergone a medical and signed a contract with Arsenal, while Darlow has also been linked with other Premier League clubs.

That leaves Lucas Perri and Alex Cairns as the current senior options. Perri arrived last summer but finished the season on the bench after Farke turned to Darlow’s experience.

Suzuki has therefore emerged as a major target, with Leeds refusing to abandon their interest despite the lack of progress in the opening talks.

The Whites have tracked the Japan international for months and were recently linked with a possible double move for Suzuki and Parma midfielder Mandela Keita.

The biggest obstacle is Parma’s valuation.

Suzuki is reportedly valued at more than €30m, and the Italian club have so far shown little willingness to soften their position.

It remains unclear whether Leeds are prepared to meet that price. However, Meslier’s expected move to Arsenal has increased the need for a new goalkeeper, which could accelerate negotiations.

Competition also remains a factor. Juventus are among the clubs interested in Suzuki, while other Premier League sides are monitoring his situation.

Leeds must now decide how far they are willing to go for a goalkeeper they have already tried and failed to sign.

Leeds are expected to return with a fresh attempt to convince Parma, but the €30m-plus valuation remains the key issue.

Meslier’s departure increases the pressure to secure a new goalkeeper, while competition for Suzuki means the Whites may need to move quickly. The next approach should show whether Leeds are prepared to meet Parma’s demands or negotiate a different structure for the deal.
