William Osula injury leaves Newcastle striker facing Denmark squad doubt

Newcastle United striker William Osula is facing a race against time to prove his fitness ahead of Denmark’s next international squad announcement.

The 23-year-old is dealing with what Denmark coach Brian Riemer has described as a “tricky football injury”, with reports also claiming Osula has been wearing a protective boot.

His availability for Newcastle’s Premier League trip to Leeds United on Monday could now determine whether he joins up with Denmark.

According to Ekstra Bladet, Osula is currently considered one of the doubtful players ahead of Denmark’s upcoming international fixtures.

Riemer revealed he has remained in regular contact with the Newcastle striker while monitoring his recovery.

“I am in constant dialogue with Will,” Riemer said. “He has a tricky football injury that can flare up and subside.”

The Denmark boss made clear that Osula needs to return to competitive action before he can seriously consider selecting him.

“Will needs to get out there and play if he is to be considered for the national team,” he added. “Clearly, time is running out.”

Viaplay has also reported that Osula has been wearing a protective boot on his foot, adding further uncertainty over his immediate availability.

Denmark will announce their squad on Tuesday, placing particular importance on Newcastle’s meeting with Leeds the previous evening.

If Osula remains unavailable for that match, Riemer indicated it will become increasingly difficult to include him.

“It’s starting to become problematic for him if the next match is also out of the picture,” the coach explained.

Riemer intends to wait until the final club fixtures are completed before making his definitive selection because injuries and fitness issues can quickly change his plans.

For Newcastle, the priority will be ensuring Osula does not aggravate an injury that has already proved unpredictable.

Osula’s fitness will be monitored ahead of Newcastle’s trip to Leeds. If he cannot feature, his chances of joining Denmark during the international break appear significantly reduced.
