Destiny Udogie open to Roma move as Tottenham set €25m price

Destiny Udogie is reportedly open to joining Roma as the Serie A club work on a potential agreement with Tottenham for the Italy international.

Roma have stepped up their interest in the 23-year-old as manager Gian Piero Gasperini searches for a left wing-back who fits his system.

According to Corriere dello Sport, there is now “constant contact” surrounding Udogie, with Roma believing the player's willingness to move could help negotiations progress.

Tottenham are reportedly asking for €25million to sanction Udogie's departure.

Spurs have rejected the possibility of allowing the defender to leave on a straightforward loan, but Roma believe another structure could provide a solution.

The Italian club are considering an initial loan containing an obligation to buy, which would guarantee Tottenham a permanent transfer at a later stage.

Corriere dello Sport claims Udogie would say yes to Roma and has made it clear to his entourage and Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi that he would only consider leaving Spurs for a club he views as the right destination.

Roma reportedly meet those requirements.

Despite the confidence emerging from Italy, there are significant reasons for Tottenham to resist a transfer.

Udogie's contract runs until 2030, leaving Spurs under little immediate financial pressure to sell.

He also emerged as an important player during the latter stages of last season and is expected to have a prominent role under De Zerbi when available.

Injuries have disrupted Udogie's previous two campaigns, but his age, lengthy contract and first-team importance could make agreeing a transfer considerably more complicated than Roma's reported €25m valuation suggests.

The player's preference could help the Italian club, but Tottenham still control the situation.
