Eintracht Frankfurt cool Arnaud Kalimuendo pursuit after Nottingham Forest stance

Eintracht Frankfurt appear to have accepted defeat in their pursuit of Nottingham Forest striker Arnaud Kalimuendo after admitting negotiations are no longer taking place.

The Bundesliga side had hoped to bring the French forward back to Germany following his successful loan spell during the second half of last season, but Nottingham Forest's stance has dramatically altered the situation.

With Oliver Glasner keen to assess his inherited squad before making transfer decisions, Kalimuendo now looks increasingly likely to remain at the City Ground.

Kalimuendo had been one of Frankfurt's priority targets this summer after impressing during his temporary spell at the club.

However, sporting director Markus Krösche has now indicated the German side have effectively ended their pursuit.

Speaking during Frankfurt's pre-season training camp, Krösche said:

"We aren't in talks with anyone at the moment. Kali is a Nottingham player; that's the situation. There's nothing more to say about it."

The comments suggest Frankfurt have accepted that a transfer is currently out of reach after weeks of speculation.

Frankfurt's hopes were dealt a significant blow following Oliver Glasner's arrival as Nottingham Forest manager earlier this summer.

Rather than immediately approving departures, the Austrian coach has chosen to evaluate every member of his squad before deciding who will remain at the club.

That approach has given Kalimuendo the opportunity to prove himself during pre-season after returning from Germany.

Forest are therefore in no rush to sanction a sale, despite the striker's successful loan spell in the Bundesliga.

Although Frankfurt's latest comments suggest they have moved on to alternative targets, the transfer window remains open and circumstances could still change.

Should Nottingham Forest decide later in the summer that Kalimuendo is surplus to requirements, Frankfurt could yet revive their interest.

For now, though, Krösche's remarks leave little room for optimism, with the Bundesliga club appearing to accept that the striker will remain at the City Ground heading into the new season.

Kalimuendo is expected to continue working under Glasner during Nottingham Forest's pre-season as the club evaluates its attacking options. Frankfurt may revisit the situation later in the window if Forest's stance changes, but for now the Bundesliga side appear to have shifted their focus elsewhere.
