Tottenham target Gianluca Prestianni has reportedly decided against leaving Benfica in January despite growing interest from Premier League clubs.
The 20-year-old Argentine winger is being monitored by Spurs, while Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Brighton are also following his progress, according to Record.
However, Prestianni has made it clear to those around him, including his representatives, that his immediate priority is staying with Benfica and challenging for the Portuguese title.
Prestianni wants to stay at Benfica until summer
Record reports that Prestianni has no intention of pursuing a move during the January transfer window.
Instead, he wants to complete the season with Benfica and attempt to leave the club as a Portuguese champion whenever a transfer eventually takes place.
That position means Tottenham and his other Premier League admirers may have to remain patient despite his growing profile.
There is no suggestion in the latest report that any of the interested English clubs have submitted an offer, with their involvement currently described as monitoring the winger.
Aston Villa, who have previously been credited with an interest in Prestianni, are not named among his suitors in Record's latest report.
Benfica preparing new contract talks
Prestianni's desire to remain in Lisbon should strengthen Benfica's position as president Rui Costa pushes ahead with plans to improve the youngster's contract.
The Portuguese club reportedly want negotiations to accelerate once Prestianni returns from international duty.
Crucially, the player is also said to be willing to hold those discussions.
Prestianni's representation is now handled by Jorge Mendes' Gestifute, which is expected to be involved in negotiations over improved salary terms and an extension to his existing contract.
His current Benfica deal runs until 2029.
That means the talks are not being presented as an attempt to convince an unhappy player to remain at the club. Prestianni's own preference is to stay for the remainder of the campaign.
Premier League clubs forced to play waiting game
Interest from five Premier League sides illustrates how quickly Prestianni's reputation is developing.
His performances have also placed him among the candidates for the Golden Boy award, further increasing attention around his future.
For Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle and Brighton, however, there appears to be little prospect of convincing him to change clubs midway through the campaign as things stand.
A successful contract renewal could also strengthen Benfica's negotiating position if Premier League clubs return for Prestianni next summer.
For now, the player's plan appears clear: remain in Portugal, compete for the title and postpone any decision over a move abroad.
