Tolu Arokodare has broken his silence on the controversial training incident that reportedly took place at Wolverhampton Wanderers, although the Ajax striker has refused to reveal his version of events.
The Nigerian forward was accused of sitting down on the training pitch amid reports he was attempting to force through a transfer to Fiorentina.
Further claims suggested security personnel were required the following day to prevent another disruption to training.
Now at Ajax, Arokodare has addressed the situation but remains reluctant to discuss exactly what happened while he is still contractually connected to Wolves.
Tolu responds to Wolves controversy
Speaking to Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, Arokodare refused to confirm or deny the reports surrounding the incident.
“I can't say that. I'm still under contract with Wolves and I have respect for the club, the players and the fans. The truth will come out one day.”
The striker then added: “If not, then God and I know.”
His comments leave considerable uncertainty around what actually happened at Wolves, with Arokodare clearly unwilling to publicly challenge the club's version while he remains under contract.
‘I don’t want to get into trouble’
The situation attracted further attention following Wolves' farewell message, in which the difficulties surrounding their relationship with the striker were reportedly highlighted.
Arokodare revealed that a friend sent him the statement.
“That says a lot. I still belong to the club. What can I say? I don't want to get into trouble,” he said.
His response suggests there is another side to the story, although the striker stopped short of providing any details.
Arokodare addresses possible apology
Arokodare was also asked whether he had any regrets about what happened and whether an apology was necessary.
The Nigerian insisted he would have no problem saying sorry if he believed he had done something wrong.
“If I had done something wrong, I would apologise,” Arokodare explained.
“If there are three words I have no trouble with, they are ‘please, thank you and sorry’. I would never laugh about that. If I do something wrong, I apologise.”
The striker has therefore avoided directly explaining the controversial episode, but his comments make clear that he is not publicly accepting the version of events that has surrounded his Wolves exit.
