England manager Thomas Tuchel has explained why Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer was omitted from his November squad despite being fully fit and in impressive club form.

The 24-year-old has recorded five goals and three assists in 11 appearances this season, but Tuchel has prioritised players who impressed during previous international camps.

England face Croatia and Spain in the Nations League, with Palmer missing out on another opportunity to establish himself.

Tuchel explains Cole Palmer omission

Speaking to talkSPORT, Tuchel confirmed that he had not personally contacted Palmer before announcing his 25-man squad.

The German explained that he generally speaks to players dropped after featuring in the previous camp, rather than those who were already absent.

"He generally misses out on too many occasions for England. That's just a fact," Tuchel said.

Palmer withdrew from the previous England squad because of a fitness problem, although subsequent medical checks confirmed his availability for November.

Tuchel stressed that the decision was not personal and that players who performed well in Palmer's absence deserved another opportunity.

Jude Bellingham strengthens competition

Palmer's route back is complicated by the form of Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham.

"Jude is nowhere near giving up his shirt," Tuchel said.

Jobe Bellingham and Fulham youngster Josh King have also received their first senior call-ups, while Morgan Gibbs-White retains his place.

Palmer, who missed England's 2026 World Cup squad, now faces increased competition despite his strong Chelsea performances under Xabi Alonso.

Chelsea star still has England opportunity

Tuchel insisted that Palmer remains in contention for future squads.

"The door is always open," the England manager confirmed.

The Chelsea playmaker must continue delivering consistently while making himself available for future international camps.
