Samuel Chukwueze says he cannot waste the second chance Ruben Amorim has given him at AC Milan after impressing in a new role during the 4-2 pre-season victory over Manchester United.

The Nigerian has returned to Milan following a loan spell and is attempting to establish himself under the new manager.

Amorim has been using Chukwueze in a wide role covering the entire flank in his 3-4-2-1 system, a significant change for a player who has traditionally operated as an attacking winger.

Despite the adjustment required, Chukwueze believes he can make the position his own.

Chukwueze embracing new Milan role

Chukwueze admitted he has never previously played in such a demanding wide position but is determined to adapt.

He credited Amorim and his coaching staff with helping him understand what is required, particularly when correcting mistakes during training.

The 27-year-old also made clear how important this opportunity feels after returning to Milan.

“He trusts me and has given me an opportunity. Now it's up to me to take it,” Chukwueze said.

“I can't waste this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity – to return to Milan after Fulham loan spell.”

Rather than questioning the positional change, Chukwueze believes he must trust both himself and his manager.

“I know it's a difficult task, but I believe in myself. I know I can do it.”

Manchester United win builds confidence

Chukwueze's performance against Manchester United provided encouraging evidence that Amorim's experiment can work.

He was involved as Milan secured an impressive 4-2 victory in their final preparations for the new campaign.

The winger believes the result can give Milan confidence ahead of their Serie A opener against Torino.

He also praised new teammate Gonçalo Ramos, highlighting the striker's ability to drop deep, compete in the air and attack space behind opposition defences.

Chukwueze now wants to continue improving before Milan's competitive campaign begins.
