Tottenham rejected Juventus Vicario loan bid as goalkeeper talks stall

Tottenham have rejected Juventus' attempt to sign Guglielmo Vicario on a straight loan, forcing the Italian giants to reconsider their options as they search for a new goalkeeper.

Juventus wanted to take the Italy international without including an obligation to buy, but Spurs have refused to accept those terms.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Vicario remains an option for Juventus, although a move will only become realistic if Tottenham change their position.

That has pushed the Serie A club back towards Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Vicario's future at Tottenham remains uncertain ahead of the transfer deadline, but Spurs are not prepared to sanction his departure under the structure proposed by Juventus.

The Italian club wanted a loan without a compulsory permanent transfer.

Tottenham have rejected that approach, leaving negotiations stalled.

Vicario was part of the Spurs squad that won the Europa League in 2025, but his position in north London has become increasingly uncertain.

Juventus could return for the goalkeeper if Tottenham become more flexible, but there is currently no agreement between the clubs.

With progress for Vicario blocked, Juventus have again turned their attention towards Martinez.

The Argentina international has already been the subject of negotiations between Juventus and Aston Villa.

Villa want €10million as a fixed fee, while Juventus have offered €7m plus another €3m in bonuses.

The difference between the clubs is therefore relatively small, and there is optimism that it can be overcome.

Martinez's potential departure has also become more relevant with Villa closing in on Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki after his proposed move to Paris Saint-Germain collapsed.

There is one concern surrounding Martinez, however. The goalkeeper played through a finger problem during the World Cup and could require surgery.

Juventus reportedly want to resolve their goalkeeper situation quickly, with Martinez currently appearing the more attainable option.

Tottenham would need to change their stance for a Vicario loan to become possible, while Juventus and Villa are separated primarily by the structure of the proposed €10m deal for Martinez.
