Manchester United handed Camavinga opportunity but major obstacle remains

Manchester United could reportedly be presented with an opportunity to sign Eduardo Camavinga, with Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho said to have doubts over the midfielder.

United have already strengthened their midfield with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans this summer, but another addition remains possible.

Camavinga is among the players linked, and reports from Italy suggest Real Madrid could be willing to consider his departure.

There is, however, one major problem: Camavinga does not want to leave Madrid.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Mourinho does not currently view Camavinga as a guaranteed starter at Real Madrid.

The Frenchman's performances during pre-season are said to have done little to remove those doubts, potentially opening the door to a transfer.

Manchester United are subsequently mentioned as a club that could make a move.

Camavinga's versatility would be particularly useful. The 23-year-old can operate in several midfield roles and has also played at left-back for Real Madrid.

United have recently been linked with strengthening that position as well, meaning Camavinga could potentially address two areas of Erik ten Hag's squad.

The biggest obstacle is the player himself.

Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Manchester United contacted Camavinga's representatives in July to understand his situation.

However, the message from the midfielder has remained consistent.

Camavinga wants to stay at Real Madrid and fight for his place under Mourinho.

That position has reportedly become even stronger following Real Madrid's failure to sign Rodri.

Rather than looking for an exit, Camavinga intends to convince Mourinho that he deserves a significant role this season.

That makes any potential United pursuit complicated regardless of Real Madrid's willingness to consider offers.

Manchester United could continue monitoring Camavinga if his situation under Mourinho deteriorates, but there is currently little indication that the player will push for an exit.

Unless Camavinga changes his position before the transfer deadline, United may have to focus on alternative targets despite the possibility of Real Madrid being open to a sale.
