Manchester City defender Ruben Dias is reportedly pushing for a summer exit following Pep Guardiola’s departure from the Etihad Stadium.

The Portuguese international has been one of City’s defining defensive figures since arriving in 2020, but reports now suggest he is seeking a fresh challenge as the club enter a major transitional period under incoming manager Enzo Maresca.

Interest from Europe’s elite has quickly intensified, with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all reportedly monitoring the situation closely.

Ruben Dias reportedly wants new challenge

According to reports, Dias has instructed his representatives to explore opportunities away from Manchester City despite still being under contract until 2029.

The centre-back is believed to feel unsettled by the major structural changes taking place following Guardiola’s exit and is now open to considering a move elsewhere at the peak of his career.

Manchester City are understandably reluctant to sanction the departure of one of their most experienced leaders during such a sensitive rebuilding phase.

However, reports indicate the club could consider offers in the region of €60m.

Europe’s biggest clubs circling

Real Madrid are reportedly especially interested in Dias as they plan long-term defensive succession.

The Spanish giants continue assessing future replacements for David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger, and Dias’ leadership profile is viewed as a major attraction internally.

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also closely following developments.

Dias often functioned as far more than just a centre-back. His organisational influence and leadership frequently stabilised the entire side during difficult moments.

That explains why losing him now would represent a particularly damaging blow during a managerial transition.

Manchester City facing delicate rebuild

The situation arrives at a difficult moment for City.

Guardiola’s departure already signals the beginning of a major new cycle and the club are expected to experience several squad changes this summer.

Losing additional senior leaders such as Dias could significantly complicate that process further.

Reports also suggest Real Madrid hold separate admiration for Josko Gvardiol, increasing concern around City’s defensive core.

However, it remains too early to know whether Dias will actively force a move or whether Manchester City will ultimately refuse to negotiate despite growing interest.

He’s 29 already… I thought he was way younger. I think if Jose Mourinho lands that Madrid job he could go and want to try another competition.
