AC Milan manager Ruben Amorim reportedly confronted his players in the dressing room following Thursday's 2-0 Europa League defeat to Ferencváros, with the club facing potentially significant financial consequences.
The Portuguese coach was furious with Milan's mentality just days after their impressive 3-1 derby victory over Inter.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan could miss out on more than €100million in potential European revenue if their disappointing campaign continues and they fail to qualify for next season's Champions League.
Amorim confronts Milan players after Ferencváros defeat
Amorim reportedly described Milan's performance as "unacceptable" before addressing his squad behind closed doors.
Lenny Joseph scored twice for Ferencváros, condemning Milan to their third defeat in four Europa League matches.
The Rossoneri have collected just three points and sit outside the qualification places.
Amorim was particularly frustrated by his side's lack of intensity after the derby victory.
Gazzetta identified several players under scrutiny, including Cisse, Ardon Jashari, Yunus Musah, captain Adrien Rabiot, Davide Bartesaghi and Filippo Terracciano.
The manager also accepted responsibility for Milan's poor preparation.
Milan facing major Europa League financial consequences
According to Gazzetta, Milan have earned approximately €14.6million from their opening four Europa League matches, excluding ticket revenue.
Failing to reach the last 16 could cost around €8million in potential UEFA payments and matchday income.
Winning the competition could generate at least €40million overall while securing Champions League qualification.
However, Milan's immediate priority is recovering enough points to reach the knockout phase.
Champions League absence increases financial pressure
Missing next season's Champions League would represent another substantial setback.
Gazzetta estimates qualification could generate approximately €50million in initial revenue, plus €10million to €15million from ticket sales.
Further progress could increase those earnings towards €80million.
The reported €100million risk therefore represents potential income across different European scenarios, not an immediate financial loss.
