Aston Villa make formal Pedro Vite approach as Pumas set $10m price

Aston Villa have made a formal approach for Pedro Vite after Pumas UNAM accepted the Ecuador international is likely to leave the club this summer.

The 24-year-old impressed at the World Cup and has attracted interest from several clubs, with Pumas now reportedly setting a $10 million (€8.74 million) price for the midfielder. Villa have taken a concrete first step, although they are yet to submit an official offer.

Villa’s interest in Vite has developed following his performances for Ecuador at the World Cup.

The midfielder was one of his country’s standout players before their elimination by Mexico in the round of 32. According to Olé, Pumas have since received approaches from interested clubs and now accept that keeping Vite could prove difficult.

Aston Villa are among those to have acted. Unai Emery’s side have made a formal approach to Pumas, but no further advances have been reported and the Mexican club are still waiting for their first official bid.

Vite joined Pumas from Vancouver Whitecaps in 2025 and quickly became an important part of the Mexican club’s midfield.

He played 3,070 minutes across 40 matches last season, operating primarily as a defensive or central midfielder. His ability to play further forward also gives him tactical flexibility, which could explain why several clubs are now monitoring his situation.

Although Vite is under contract until 2029, Pumas appear to have accepted that his World Cup performances have created an opportunity for a summer transfer.

The club’s decision to set a price also gives interested teams a clear route towards negotiations.

Manchester United have reportedly made an informal approach, while the City Football Group are monitoring developments. Club América have also been linked, although Vite is not believed to be their priority target.

From Villa’s recent transfer activity, Vite would represent a relatively low-cost opportunity compared with many established Premier League midfield targets. His versatility and World Cup experience add to the attraction, but much will depend on whether Villa now follow their approach with a bid.
