Paul Merson believes Leeds United have a significant advantage over Arsenal ahead of Saturday's Premier League meeting at Elland Road, pointing to the early kick-off immediately after the international break.

Daniel Farke's side remain unbeaten after five matches, collecting nine points to sit fifth in the table.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are looking to recover from a 3-0 defeat against Brighton, which ended their perfect start to the season and left them three points behind Manchester City.

Merson believes the limited preparation time available to Mikel Arteta could work in Leeds' favour.

Merson highlights Arsenal's international break problem

Speaking on Sky Sports News, the former Arsenal midfielder explained why Saturday's 12.30pm kick-off could prove difficult for the reigning champions.

“A lot of players go away in the international break at Arsenal,” Merson said.

“They probably came back yesterday, did a little warm-up so they literally get today and a little bit tomorrow, running through set-plays and patterns, and then they’re kicking off at 12:30pm on Saturday.”

Merson believes that disruption gives Leeds an opportunity to challenge a side that defeated them twice last season.

“I think it’s a bit of a leveller for Leeds, this is a little bit of an advantage for Leeds that they’re playing straight after the international break at 12:30pm.”

Begovic expects Arsenal response after Brighton defeat

Former Premier League goalkeeper Asmir Begovic agreed that the timing favours Leeds, particularly with Arsenal's international players having limited opportunities to train together.

“A lunchtime kick-off at Elland Road, Leeds will be absolutely buzzing for this game,” Begovic said.

However, he believes Arsenal's defeat at Brighton could provide additional motivation.

“Having seen the last result, I think that’s a bit of a wake-up call for Arsenal so I think there won’t be any complacency going into this Leeds game.”

Arteta also faces fitness concerns involving Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Ezri Konsa, Kai Havertz and Christos Tzolis.

Leeds aiming to maintain unbeaten start

Leeds have recorded two victories and three draws in their opening five Premier League fixtures.

Their unbeaten start represents a significant improvement on last season's early struggles, but Arsenal remain a difficult opponent.

The Gunners won both meetings last season, recording 5-0 and 4-0 victories over Farke's side.

Saturday's encounter therefore offers Leeds an opportunity to demonstrate their progress against the defending champions.
