Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle has welcomed Joelinton's return to training ahead of Monday's Premier League trip to Coventry City.
The Brazilian midfielder has missed the entire campaign so far with a muscle injury, but is now closing in on his first appearance of the season.
Newcastle could also welcome back Nico González and Dan Burn, although goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Jaissle delighted as Joelinton returns to training
Joelinton's recovery provides a timely boost for Newcastle following an injury-disrupted start to the campaign.
The 30-year-old has resumed full training, although Jaissle stressed the importance of managing his workload carefully.
“Joey is progressing well, he is doing better. We need to be smart in our load management,” the Newcastle manager said.
Jaissle also highlighted the midfielder's leadership and physical presence.
“Joelinton has qualities on the ball and out of possession, he is a leader and his body language shows that. We need warriors in the team.”
While Joelinton is expected to be available against Coventry, Newcastle will assess his readiness before deciding how much playing time he can manage.
Newcastle receive mixed injury news
The extended international break has helped Newcastle recover several players, with Nico González and Dan Burn also expected to return.
However, Ewen Jaouen suffered a hamstring injury while representing France Under-21s and could miss up to two months.
His absence is likely to bring Nick Pope back into the matchday squad as cover for first-choice goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek.
Pope remained at Newcastle after proposed summer moves to Ipswich Town and Leeds United failed to materialise.
Jaissle praised the former England international's professionalism despite his reduced role.
“He knows about his role and he reacted really professional on that,” the manager explained.
The Newcastle boss also emphasised Pope's experience and leadership, describing him as an important member of the squad both on and off the pitch.
