Nottingham Forest agree deal for Xaver Schlager after rejecting Europe’s elite

Nottingham Forest are set to complete the signing of Austria international Xaver Schlager on a free transfer after the midfielder rejected a contract extension at RB Leipzig and interest from several of Europe's top clubs.

According to David Ornstein, the 28-year-old has agreed a two-year contract with the option of a further year, with a medical scheduled for later this week ahead of his move to the City Ground.

The deal represents a significant coup for Forest, who have secured one of the Bundesliga's most experienced midfielders without paying a transfer fee.

Schlager became a free agent after deciding against extending his stay with RB Leipzig.
