Juventus contact Guglielmo Vicario as Emiliano Martínez talks stall

Juventus have intensified their interest in Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario as uncertainty continues to surround their pursuit of Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez.

The Argentina international remains the preferred option in Turin, but Villa’s reluctance to sanction a departure has forced Juventus to keep alternative negotiations active. Vicario is now firmly among the leading candidates, with fresh contact reportedly taking place in recent hours.

Luciano Spalletti has also spoken directly to the Italy international as Juventus attempt to resolve their goalkeeping situation quickly.

According to transfer journalist Matteo Moretto, Juventus have maintained contact with the parties involved in a potential deal for Vicario.

The former Empoli goalkeeper is believed to be available for a transfer away from Tottenham and has remained under close observation from the Serie A club throughout the summer.

While Martínez continues to occupy first place on Juventus’ shortlist, the club do not want to become dependent on a negotiation that remains difficult. That has encouraged sporting director Giovanni Carnevali to continue working on several options simultaneously.

Vicario’s Serie A experience and familiarity with Italian football make him a logical alternative should Juventus fail to reach an agreement with Aston Villa.

The clearest sign of Juventus’ interest is the reported conversation between Vicario and Spalletti.

Moretto claims the Juventus coach has personally contacted the goalkeeper, suggesting the club are doing more than simply monitoring his situation.

Direct communication with the manager can be important during transfer negotiations, particularly when a player wants clarity over his expected role and the sporting project. Spalletti is understood to regard Vicario as a reliable option capable of immediately taking responsibility as Juventus’ first-choice goalkeeper.

The 29-year-old would also offer experience at both Premier League and international level after establishing himself during his time in north London.

Despite the latest developments, Juventus have not abandoned their pursuit of Martínez.

The Aston Villa goalkeeper remains their preferred target, but the Premier League club have publicly insisted that they intend to keep him. That stance has made negotiations increasingly complicated, even though the Argentine is reportedly open to a move to Serie A.

Juventus therefore face a decision over how long they are prepared to wait.

Vicario may represent the more attainable option if Tottenham are willing to negotiate, although any agreement would still depend on the English club’s valuation and the goalkeeper’s willingness to leave the Premier League.

Juventus are expected to continue negotiations on both fronts while assessing which transfer can be completed most quickly. If Aston Villa maintain their position over Martínez, talks for Vicario could accelerate, particularly after Spalletti’s direct intervention.
