Milos Kerkez believes Liverpool have appointed the ideal manager in Andoni Iraola and insists the Reds can quickly return to competing for major honours after what he described as an "unacceptable" campaign last season.
The Hungary international already knows exactly what to expect from Iraola, having worked under the Spaniard during two successful years at Bournemouth before completing his £40 million move to Anfield last summer.
With Iraola now replacing Arne Slot, Kerkez is confident Liverpool's players will thrive under their new head coach—provided they fully embrace his demanding style.
Kerkez welcomes Iraola reunion
Kerkez admitted he was delighted when he learned Iraola would become Liverpool's new manager.
The 21-year-old credits the Spaniard and his coaching staff with playing a huge role in his development at Bournemouth.
"We had really great times together in Bournemouth and when I saw that he was coming I was obviously really happy.
"They know me, I know them and I know that they can bring a lot to the club – especially Andoni with the playing style, with the energy and how he wants his team to play."
The left-back believes Iraola's aggressive, front-foot philosophy is perfectly suited to Liverpool's squad.
"He likes to play direct, high, front-foot, and I think that's perfect also for me. I think not only me, I think a lot of players are going to like it."
"It's up to you"
Kerkez also offered insight into Iraola's management style, describing a coach who sets clear expectations and demands complete commitment from every player.
"He's a nice person. He lets you know straightforward what he wants from you, then it's up to you to do it.
"If you don't do it, you're not playing, simple as that."
According to Kerkez, Iraola may not be the loudest figure in the dressing room, but his passion is impossible to miss.
"He's maybe not much of a talker, but he shows fully his emotions. He's really energetic… I think he's a really perfect boss for Liverpool."
Liverpool determined to respond
Kerkez also reflected on last season's disappointing campaign, which ultimately led to Slot's dismissal.
Despite securing Champions League qualification on the final day, Liverpool fell well below expectations after entering the season as defending Premier League champions.
The defender believes the squad must respond immediately.
"We are going to have to fight really more because obviously in Liverpool you have to play for things, you have to win things and last year it was, you can say unacceptable."
With pre-season now underway, Kerkez says the players must quickly absorb Iraola's ideas before the club heads to the United States for its summer tour.
