Feyenoord have been criticised for reportedly rejecting the chance to sell Givairo Read to Nottingham Forest or Roma for €30million during the summer transfer window.

Dutch pundit Kenneth Perez believes the Eredivisie club should have accepted such a fee for the highly rated 20-year-old right-back, although Feyenoord dispute claims that an offer of that size was ever received.

Kenneth Perez questions Feyenoord's transfer decision

Read attracted considerable interest during the summer after establishing himself as one of Dutch football's promising young defenders.

Nottingham Forest and Roma were reportedly among his most serious suitors, while Bayern Munich have also been linked with the player.

Reports suggested Forest and Roma were prepared to pay approximately €30million, but Read ultimately remained at Feyenoord.

Speaking on ESPN's Voetbalpraat, Perez argued that such a fee would have represented exceptional business for a right-back.

“Turning down €30m is truly criminal,” he said.

Perez believes Feyenoord should have treated the reported interest differently from potential offers for attacking players such as Anis Hadj Moussa.

Feyenoord director disputes Nottingham Forest fee claims

Despite Perez's criticism, Feyenoord director of football Devy Rigaux has challenged reports that the club rejected a €30million proposal.

Rigaux insisted no offer of that value had arrived and questioned the origin of the figure.

He also explained that receiving a substantial transfer fee would not necessarily have allowed Feyenoord to reinvest the entire amount immediately.

Read, meanwhile, has shown little frustration about remaining in Rotterdam.

The defender recently explained that he was not desperate to leave and viewed a potential transfer as an opportunity rather than a necessity.

His relaxed stance means Feyenoord have retained a promising player without an apparent dispute over his future.

For Nottingham Forest, the failed pursuit leaves open the possibility of renewed interest, although no fresh approach has been reported.
