Former Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest transfer target Luis Suárez has continued his remarkable scoring form for Sporting CP, netting in seven consecutive matches despite an exhausting international break with Colombia.

The 28-year-old striker scored in Sporting's 3-1 victory over Braga, extending a run previously achieved by only 12 other players in the Portuguese club's history.

Luis Suárez scores again after exhausting Colombia trip

Suárez's latest contribution came just days after completing three international appearances for Colombia against Mexico, Paraguay and Peru.

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the striker played 172 minutes across those fixtures before travelling more than 6,600 kilometres from Miami to Lisbon.

He landed in Portugal early on Thursday morning and returned directly to Sporting's training facilities before travelling with the squad to Braga.

Manager Rui Borges initially rested Suárez, selecting Fotis Ioannidis to lead the attack.

However, the Colombian entered the match in the 58th minute and scored Sporting's equaliser just eight minutes later.

He also contributed to the move that produced a Braga own goal as Sporting completed their 3-1 victory.

Newcastle and Nottingham Forest interest resurfaces

Suárez has now scored eight goals this season, including seven in the Portuguese league and one in the Champions League.

His seven-match scoring streak places him alongside Sporting greats including Mário Jardel, Bas Dost and Viktor Gyökeres.

The striker has also reached 46 goals for Sporting since arriving from Almería in 2025, equalling Fredy Montero's record as the club's highest-scoring Colombian player.

His resurgence follows a summer of transfer speculation.

Newcastle reportedly approached Sporting about a potential deal, while Nottingham Forest were linked with a late move.

Sporting retained the striker, whose contract contains an €80million release clause.

Suárez initially struggled after returning from the World Cup and temporarily lost his starting position to Ioannidis.

However, his recent performances have restored his importance to the Portuguese side ahead of Tuesday's Champions League meeting with Lens.
