Noni Madueke backed to become one of the world’s best despite criticism

Noni Madueke has been backed to become one of the world's best players despite facing constant criticism throughout his career.

The England winger lost his place in Thomas Tuchel's starting line-up for the World Cup last-16 victory over Mexico, but his private coach, Saul Isaksson-Hurst, insists the Arsenal star has the mentality to reach the very top of the game.

According to Isaksson-Hurst, criticism has never distracted Madueke from his long-term ambitions.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Isaksson-Hurst revealed he first began working with Madueke during the winger's time at PSV Eindhoven.

The coach described him as a player with exceptional talent and a determination to improve.

Rather than relying solely on his ability to cut inside, Madueke worked extensively on becoming unpredictable by attacking defenders on both sides.

Isaksson-Hurst said those improvements were quickly rewarded, with the winger scoring twice against Ajax in the Dutch Super Cup using movements they had specifically trained.

The coach believes Madueke has maintained that same attitude throughout his career.

"He wants to get better. He wants to improve. And he wants to be the best version he can be," Isaksson-Hurst said.

Madueke has experienced plenty of highs and lows since returning to England from PSV in 2023.

During his Chelsea spell, then-manager Enzo Maresca publicly questioned his commitment in training.

His £52 million move to Arsenal also generated criticism before supporters were quickly won over by his performances during the Gunners' Premier League title-winning campaign.

The winger has continued to divide opinion during England's World Cup.

Madueke started three of the first four matches and won the penalty that led to Harry Kane's first goal of the tournament against Croatia.

However, after failing to register a goal contribution from open play, he was replaced by Bukayo Saka for the knockout victory over Mexico.

Despite the criticism, Isaksson-Hurst insists the winger's mindset has never changed.

"People love to hate him for some reason," he said.

The coach added that the negativity has had little impact on Madueke.

"It was like water off a duck's back. He's got such a strong mindset."

According to Isaksson-Hurst, Madueke's ambition is clear.

"He wants to be one of the best players in the world."

That mentality could prove important as England prepare for the World Cup quarter-final against Norway, where Madueke will be hoping to force his way back into Tuchel's starting XI.
