Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly becoming increasingly serious about a move for Nicolò Fagioli after the midfielder’s impressive rise at ACF Fiorentina this season.

The Italy international has gradually established himself as one of Fiorentina’s most influential players during the campaign, helping drive the club towards a stable mid-table finish in Serie A.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Tottenham’s admiration for Fagioli is now growing beyond early exploratory contact, with Spurs viewing the midfielder as a strong fit for their long-term tactical rebuild.

Tottenham see Nicolo Fagioli as midfield solution

The report claims Roberto De Zerbi is particularly keen to improve the technical level of Tottenham’s midfield options and believes Fagioli could play a major role in that process.

No formal offer has been submitted yet, but Spurs are reportedly considering how to convince both Fiorentina and the player to move to north London this summer.

Having followed Tottenham’s midfield evolution closely throughout the season, the club’s need for greater control in possession and improved resistance under pressure has become increasingly obvious. Fagioli’s profile directly addresses many of those concerns.

The 25-year-old is capable of dictating tempo, progressing play through tight spaces and operating across multiple midfield roles. Those qualities helped earn him a place in Italy’s squad for the European Championship in 2024 and continue to attract attention from clubs across Europe.

Fiorentina aware major offers could change situation

Fiorentina currently view Fagioli as a key component of their project and are not actively seeking a sale.

However, Corriere dello Sport suggest the club recognise their position could change if “mind-blowing offers” arrive from the Premier League. Any major transfer would reportedly allow Fiorentina to reinvest heavily into the squad while generating a substantial capital gain.

Financially, the midfielder also represents an attractive opportunity for Tottenham.

Fagioli reportedly earns around €1.8m per season in Florence, meaning Spurs would likely have little difficulty offering improved personal terms if negotiations progress seriously.

Former Tottenham executive Fabio Paratici could also become an important factor because of his longstanding familiarity with Italian talent networks and previous connections to the player’s development.

Juventus would reportedly also benefit financially from any future transfer because of a clause entitling them to 10 percent of Fiorentina’s profit on the player.

What’s next?

Tottenham are expected to continue monitoring Fagioli closely before deciding whether to formalise their interest later in the summer window.

Much may depend on wider midfield departures and how aggressively Spurs prioritise technical reinforcement under De Zerbi. Fiorentina, meanwhile, are unlikely to encourage negotiations unless an offer significantly exceeds the player’s accounting value.

For now, the situation appears to be moving steadily rather than rapidly, but Tottenham’s admiration for the midfielder is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.

Would Nicolo Fagioli be the midfielder Tottenham need to control games more effectively under Roberto De Zerbi?
