Aston Villa and Fulham are reportedly moving closer towards a potential transfer battle for Geny Catamo after fresh claims from Portugal suggested Sporting CP have already received offers for the winger.
The Mozambique international enjoyed a highly productive campaign, contributing 12 goals and six assists across 55 appearances while becoming one of Sporting’s most influential attacking players.
Now, according to CNN Portugal, Sporting increasingly expect Catamo to leave this summer if suitable bids arrive.
Sporting preparing for possible Geny Catamo exit
Portuguese reports indicate Sporting are targeting a transfer fee of around €30m (£26m), although current offers are believed to remain closer to €20m (£17m).
That valuation gap has not discouraged optimism inside Portugal that a deal could eventually be reached.
CNN Portugal commentator Nuno Farinha has claimed Sporting internally already expect Catamo to depart and have informed manager Rui Borges not to rely on the winger for next season’s squad planning.
Farinha also suggested the player himself is increasingly attracted by the possibility of moving abroad for improved financial and sporting opportunities.
Having followed Sporting’s attacking structure throughout the season, Catamo’s growth has been particularly noticeable in high-intensity transition matches. His ability to attack space quickly and contribute consistently in the final third has naturally increased attention from clubs searching for versatile wide forwards.
That profile aligns closely with the type of attackers Aston Villa and Fulham have targeted in recent windows.
Aston Villa and Fulham continue to monitor situation
Neither Aston Villa nor Fulham have been officially identified as the clubs who submitted offers. However, both Premier League sides have repeatedly appeared in Portuguese reporting surrounding Catamo over recent months.
ACF Fiorentina have also been linked strongly from Italy.
Former Mozambique coach Luís Gonçalves believes the timing is right for Catamo to take the next step in his career.

“With his characteristics, he can make a difference in any league.” — Luís Gonçalves
Sporting only renewed Catamo’s contract earlier this year and maintained his €60m release clause, but the latest reports suggest the Portuguese club are now prepared to negotiate significantly below that figure if realistic offers arrive quickly.

What’s next?
The situation could develop quickly if Sporting reduce their demands slightly and interested clubs improve their offers before the Club World Cup period begins.
Aston Villa’s approach may depend on wider attacking changes under Unai Emery, while Fulham continue searching for additional creativity and pace in wide areas ahead of next season.
For Sporting, the growing expectation now appears less about whether Catamo will leave and more about which club moves decisively first.
Would Geny Catamo thrive immediately in the Premier League, or would another season at Sporting benefit his long-term development more?
