Ferdi Kadıoğlu has admitted he would welcome the possibility of returning to Fenerbahçe one day, despite remaining an important player for Brighton & Hove Albion.
The versatile defender joined Brighton from Fenerbahçe in 2024 in a deal worth around €30m after establishing himself as one of the standout performers in Turkish football.
Now, speaking in an interview with KAFA Sports via GZT, Kadıoğlu has revealed how emotional his departure from Istanbul was and hinted he would be open to a future return.
Ferdi Kadıoğlu admits emotional Fenerbahçe exit
Kadıoğlu spent six years at Fenerbahçe after initially arriving from NEC Nijmegen in 2018.
During that period, he made more than 200 appearances for the Turkish side and became one of the club’s most admired modern players because of his versatility, consistency and connection with supporters.
Reflecting on his departure, the Brighton defender made clear the emotional attachment remains strong.
“Leaving Fenerbahçe was very difficult for me,” — Ferdi Kadıoğlu via KAFA Sports
“Fenerbahçe is always in my heart. Who knows, maybe I’ll come back one day. I can’t promise that, but it would be nice if it happened.” — Ferdi Kadıoğlu
Having followed Brighton’s development closely this season, Kadıoğlu has quickly become one of the club’s most dependable players since arriving in the Premier League. His adaptability across both defensive and midfield roles has made him a key figure within Brighton’s tactical structure.
That makes any short-term exit appear highly unlikely.
Brighton remain firmly in control of situation
The 26-year-old has featured in 91 percent of Brighton’s Premier League minutes this season and has started almost every available league fixture.
Those numbers underline his importance to the squad and help explain why Brighton would have little interest in entertaining offers anytime soon.
| Stat (2025/26) | Ferdi Kadıoğlu |
|---|---|
| Premier League appearances | 35 |
| Goals | 3 |
| Assists | 6 |
| Minutes played percentage | 91% |

Kadıoğlu also remains under contract at Brighton until 2028, with the club reportedly holding an option to extend that agreement by a further year.
As a result, any future move back to Fenerbahçe would likely require a significant financial commitment from the Turkish club.
However, it remains too early to view the comments as anything more than an emotional acknowledgement of his connection to his former side.
What’s next?
Brighton are expected to continue building around Kadıoğlu heading into next season given his growing influence within the squad and strong adaptation to Premier League football.
Fenerbahçe supporters will inevitably continue dreaming about a future reunion, but current contract conditions and Brighton’s negotiating position make any immediate return extremely difficult.
For now, Kadıoğlu appears fully focused on continuing his development in England while keeping the door emotionally open for a possible return later in his career.
Would Ferdi Kadıoğlu eventually become an even bigger Fenerbahçe legend if he returned to Istanbul in the future?
