Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade has come under renewed criticism at Juventus, with former Italy international Fabrizio Ravanelli questioning his long-term suitability for the club.

The 24-year-old has scored three goals in three Europa League appearances since joining Juventus on loan but remains without a goal in Serie A.

He started Sunday's 2-0 victory over Napoli, although his performance failed to convince Ravanelli.

Ravanelli questions Woltemade's suitability

Speaking on Tuttosport's Penna Bianca programme following the Napoli victory, Ravanelli argued that Woltemade lacks the qualities Juventus need from a centre-forward.

"He's not a player suited to Juve's style of football," Ravanelli said.

The former Juventus striker believes Woltemade does not attack the penalty area effectively enough, particularly when teammates deliver crosses.

He acknowledged the German's ability to protect possession and link play but questioned his movement and finishing instincts.

"He can help, but certainly not for Juve's future," he added.

Ravanelli believes Juventus need a striker who attacks the near post, challenges defenders in the air and consistently threatens goal.

Newcastle loanee struggling with tactical demands

Woltemade's technical ability and willingness to drop into deeper positions have helped him contribute to Juventus' build-up play.

However, those characteristics have also raised questions about his suitability as a conventional centre-forward.

His partnership with Randal Kolo Muani has attracted criticism, with both players tending to move away from central attacking positions.

Despite his domestic struggles, Woltemade has impressed in Europe.

He became only the third Juventus player to score in each of his first three major European appearances, following Roberto Baggio and Darko Kovačević.

January transfer questions emerge

Woltemade joined Juventus from Newcastle on 1 September on a season-long loan running until June 2027.

Italian reports suggest Juventus are considering additional attacking options, potentially including a more traditional penalty-box striker.

However, there is no confirmed agreement to end Woltemade's loan early.

His future beyond the current campaign also remains uncertain.

  • Ravanelli doubts Woltemade's long-term suitability for Juventus.
