Newcastle United are among the clubs monitoring the situation of AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori, with the England international increasingly expected to leave the San Siro this summer.

After another disappointing campaign for Milan, the Serie A side are preparing for a squad rebuild under new head coach Ruben Amorim, and Tomori has emerged as one of the leading candidates to depart.

Milan ready to cash in

Milan's failure to qualify for the Champions League has increased the pressure to raise funds through player sales.

According to reports in Italy, Tomori is one of the club's most valuable assets available on the market, alongside winger Rafael Leão.

The former Chelsea defender remains under contract until 2027, but Milan are reluctant to allow his deal to run down and are understood to be open to offers in the region of €15 million to €20 million.

That valuation could prove attractive for Premier League clubs looking to strengthen their defensive options.

Newcastle remain interested

Newcastle are reportedly considering several centre-back targets this summer, with Tomori among the names on their shortlist.

The Magpies are keen to add experience and depth to Eddie Howe's squad ahead of another demanding campaign, and Tomori's Premier League pedigree combined with his success in Italy makes him an appealing option.

The 28-year-old previously rejected a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, signalling his desire to continue competing at the highest level in European football.

Coventry City have also been linked with the defender, but Newcastle would represent a far more attractive destination should they decide to formalise their interest.

Opportunity for a bargain

Tomori enjoyed a superb start to his Milan career, helping the club win the Serie A title in 2022, although he has struggled to consistently reproduce that level of performance in recent seasons.

Despite some inconsistent displays, he remained a regular starter last term and offers valuable experience in both English and Italian football.

If interest from rival clubs fails to materialise quickly, Newcastle could find themselves in a strong negotiating position. Milan's need to generate funds before the end of the transfer window may eventually force them to accept a lower fee.

For a player with Tomori's experience and availability at a relatively modest price, the deal could represent excellent value for a club seeking reliable defensive cover.
