Newcastle United captain Dan Burn has urged supporters to remain behind the team after another disappointing Premier League defeat at St James' Park.

Matthias Jaissle's side lost 1-0 to Everton on Monday, their second consecutive home league defeat following the loss to Aston Villa.

The result left Newcastle 13th in the table, with supporters booing at half-time and full-time.

Dan Burn responds to Newcastle supporters

Speaking after the defeat, Burn acknowledged the growing frustration among fans but warned that a negative atmosphere can affect confidence.

"I understand fan frustration," Burn admitted.

"I've been a season ticket holder here and I understand what to expect from a Newcastle team, but it doesn't make it easier to play here when you've got that."

The defender explained that Newcastle's poor performances have created nervousness both on the pitch and in the stands.

He believes that atmosphere can make it harder for players to recover their confidence, particularly when results are going against them.

However, Burn accepted that responsibility for improving the situation ultimately rests with the squad.

Newcastle captain demands stronger performances

Newcastle struggled to create clear opportunities against Everton before Thierno Barry scored the decisive goal shortly after half-time.

The defeat followed Thursday's 3-1 Carabao Cup elimination against the same opponents.

Burn acknowledged that the team must offer supporters more reasons to get behind them.

He highlighted the importance of aggressive pressing, winning challenges and showing greater determination in attacking areas.

Newcastle's problems were compounded when Jacob Ramsey received two yellow cards in quick succession during stoppage time.

Jaissle also accepted responsibility for the performance, admitting his players had failed to execute their intended approach.

Burn urges unity before Fulham clash

With Newcastle travelling to Fulham on Saturday, Burn appealed for unity during a difficult period.

"Now is the time for everyone to pull together. We need you," he said.

The captain insisted that the squad remain committed to improving their performances and results.
