Fulham's record goalscorer Gordon Davies has urged supporters to remain patient with Gonzalo Garcia, backing the young striker to overcome his difficult start at Craven Cottage.
The 22-year-old joined from Real Madrid in August but has scored only once in the Premier League this season.
Despite his finishing struggles, Davies believes the Spaniard possesses the qualities to become a successful centre-forward.
Fulham legend sees similarities with Garcia
Speaking to Standard Sport, Davies, who scored a club-record 178 goals for Fulham, compared Garcia's development with his own early career.
"Gonzalo Garcia is 22 years of age, started life off as a winger, and has now been pushed into the centre-forward position," Davies explained.
"I look at Garcia and he is the nearest thing that I've seen to my playing style and position."
Davies recalled struggling to convert opportunities early in his Fulham career before developing into the club's leading goalscorer.
He believes Garcia deserves similar patience and encouragement from supporters.
The former Wales international is particularly impressed by the youngster's willingness to work for the team and find promising attacking positions.
Davies offers advice on finishing struggles
Davies believes Garcia must improve his movement inside the penalty area to convert more chances.
The Spaniard regularly drops deeper to participate in build-up play, but that can leave him out of position when crosses arrive.
"Make the run, get into the box, and then you're there when the ball finally comes in," he advised.
Davies remains confident that Garcia can develop the instincts required to become a consistent Premier League goalscorer.
Fulham form improving under Arbeloa
Fulham have taken seven points from their last three league matches, including Saturday's 1-1 draw against Aston Villa.
Manager Álvaro Arbeloa has acknowledged that his team must provide Garcia with better service, particularly from wide positions.
The striker has continued making attacking runs despite his lack of goals, suggesting that improved supply could help him regain confidence.
