Everton have intensified their interest in Atlético Madrid defender Nahuel Molina after opening discussions over a potential summer transfer, according to reports in Italy.

The Argentina international has emerged as one of David Moyes' leading targets as Everton look to strengthen at right-back before the transfer window closes.

According to TuttoJuve, the Toffees have accelerated their pursuit in recent hours, moving ahead of Juventus by holding initial talks to assess the financial framework of a deal.

Everton make first move

The report claims Everton have no concerns about meeting Atlético Madrid's transfer demands, although the Spanish club are yet to settle on their final asking price.

Atlético are reportedly willing to sell Molina this summer as they look to generate funds, with manager Diego Simeone no longer viewing the 28-year-old as an essential part of his plans.

With the defender's contract running until 2027, Atlético are still in a position to command a significant fee but are open to negotiations.

Juventus also monitoring defender

Juventus remain interested in Molina but are understood to have fallen behind Everton after the Premier League club made the first concrete move.

Whether the Serie A giants decide to respond could depend on Atlético's valuation and Everton's progress in negotiations.

For now, the Merseyside club appear to be leading the race for the World Cup-winning full-back.

Experienced option for David Moyes

Molina joined Atlético Madrid from Udinese in 2022 after impressing in Serie A, where he contributed 12 goal involvements during the 2021/22 season.

Although he has not matched those attacking numbers in Spain, he has become an experienced performer at the highest level, featuring regularly in the UEFA Champions League while maintaining his place in Argentina's national team.

His versatility and experience across Serie A, La Liga and European competition make him an attractive option as Everton seek additional quality in defence.
