Daniel Farke sends James Trafford message and hints at more Leeds United transfers

Daniel Farke believes new signing James Trafford has the potential to become one of Leeds United's greatest goalkeepers, while confirming the club are still planning further additions before the transfer window closes.

The Leeds head coach also revealed Gabriel Gudmundsson is expected to miss the start of the Premier League season after suffering a hamstring injury.

Speaking after Leeds' 2-0 pre-season victory over RB Leipzig, Farke hailed the club-record signing of Trafford from Manchester City.

The England goalkeeper is expected to join up with the squad on Tuesday ahead of a possible debut against Manchester United in Dublin.

"I made no secret out of what I wanted in this position - a top-class player. Right now we've got one. We are fully convinced that he has the potential to be an outstanding goalkeeper for us in the history of Leeds United. We are convinced that he has all the potential also to be perhaps, in the mid and long term, England's new number one."

Farke admitted Trafford will need time to build his fitness after a disrupted summer but believes Leeds have secured one of the country's brightest goalkeeping talents.

Despite adding Trafford, Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic this summer, Farke insists Leeds' transfer business is not complete.

The German wants to add more experience to a squad preparing for the challenges of a second consecutive Premier League campaign.

"We are convinced that our business is not done yet. We also need still experience and quality for a very difficult second year after promotion."

While refusing to reveal specific targets, Farke admitted Leeds are actively working behind the scenes to strengthen further.

Leeds have also suffered a setback with Gabriel Gudmundsson expected to miss the opening weeks of the season.

Farke revealed the left-back is facing around four weeks on the sidelines with a suspected hamstring injury.

"Initial assessment is that he could miss the start of the Premier League season. It's realistic to speak about, overall with his injury, four weeks."

The injury has increased Leeds' need to sign another left-back before the transfer window closes, with Farke acknowledging his options in that position are currently limited.

Trafford is expected to join Leeds training on Tuesday before potentially making his debut against Manchester United. Meanwhile, Leeds will continue working on further signings, with a left-back now a growing priority following Gudmundsson's injury.
