Jean-Philippe Mateta praised Crystal Palace’s resilience after the Eagles twice fought back to secure a 2-2 draw against Everton at Selhurst Park.

Just three days after booking their place in a European final, Palace were back in Premier League action and faced another physical test against an Everton side still pushing for a strong finish in the table.

Despite the short turnaround and twice falling behind, Oliver Glasner’s side showed their now-familiar fighting spirit to claim a point.

For Mateta, that mentality is becoming one of Palace’s defining traits.

Mateta proud of Palace fightback

Palace responded to setbacks through goals from Ismaïla Sarr and substitute Mateta, with the French striker making an impact from the bench in the second half.

The hosts pushed hard for a winner late on, but Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford produced several important saves to preserve the draw.

Speaking after the match, Mateta admitted there was frustration over missed opportunities but felt Palace earned their point.

His goal off the bench continued his importance in Palace’s attacking setup during a demanding end to the campaign.

‘This team never gives up’

Mateta made it clear the squad’s mentality remains one of its biggest strengths, especially after balancing European and domestic demands.

“This is Crystal Palace. We had the game on Thursday, and we wanted to win today and we nearly won, but in the end it’s one point. We never give up, and that’s why I’m happy to be with this team too.” — Sky Sports

Having followed Palace’s recent run closely, their ability to recover in matches has become a recurring feature under Glasner.

That resilience could prove crucial as they approach one of the biggest games in the club’s recent history.

Sarr reaches 20-goal milestone

Fellow scorer Sarr also reflected positively on the result after reaching 20 goals in all competitions this season.

His powerful left-footed strike in the first half gave Palace a route back into the contest and underlined his growing importance in the squad.

“It was a tough game, Everton are very physical. Our team was ready for this game. I’m happy to take one point, but we needed three points today and came out with a draw.” — Sky Sports

Sarr’s form has been one of Palace’s biggest positives this season, particularly during their push in Europe.

What’s next?

Crystal Palace now turn their focus back towards their European final preparations, while also looking to finish the Premier League season strongly.

Managing fitness and momentum will be key over the coming weeks, with Glasner expected to rotate where possible.

If Palace maintain this resilience, they will head into their biggest fixture of the season with confidence.

Can Crystal Palace carry this momentum into their European final?
