Martin Ødegaard praised for response to Wolves star after Norway disappointment

Wolves defender David Møller Wolfe has praised Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard for supporting him after he was dropped for Norway's dramatic 3-2 Nations League victory over Denmark.

Wolfe was disappointed to start the game on the bench but revealed Ødegaard spoke with him and offered encouragement before he was eventually introduced during the second half.

The evening still ended frustratingly for the 24-year-old, who was sent off in stoppage time after receiving two yellow cards.

Wolfe admitted he had wanted to start against Denmark but insisted he would not allow the setback to affect him.

"Of course, I want to play every game, but I'm not someone who dwells on things like that. Now I want to try to bounce back," he said.

The Wolves defender then singled out Ødegaard for the way he handled the situation.

"He's a fantastic leader who has been really great with me. He's talked to me a lot. I appreciate that enormously," Wolfe said.

It provides another example of Ødegaard's leadership away from Arsenal, with the midfielder also wearing the captain's armband for his country.

Norway eventually secured all three points thanks to a goal from Oscar Bobb and a brace from Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.

Wolfe eventually got his opportunity from the bench but his appearance ended prematurely.

The defender received two yellow cards and was dismissed in the 94th minute, meaning he will now miss Norway's next match through suspension.

Despite the red card, Wolfe felt he had made a positive contribution after coming on.

"I think I came on and brought some good energy to the team," he said.

"I was a bit clumsy and unlucky with the two yellow cards, which unfortunately rule me out of the next match. That's the frustrating part."

Wolfe also defended the decision which resulted in his second booking, explaining that he had little time to react and did what he believed was necessary in the moment.

The sending-off ultimately did not cost Norway, who held on for a 3-2 victory, but Wolfe will now have to watch their next fixture from the sidelines.

Wolfe will be suspended for Norway's next fixture following his red card, leaving him with another selection setback to overcome.

For Ødegaard, the comments provide further evidence of the leadership role he holds within the Norwegian squad. The Arsenal captain will now look to help Norway build on their dramatic victory over Denmark as their Nations League campaign continues.
