Marcus Tavernier pushing for first England call-up after impressive Bournemouth start

Marcus Tavernier has reportedly moved into serious contention for his first senior England call-up following an impressive start to the season with Bournemouth.

According to TEAMTalk, the 27-year-old is among the players being considered by Thomas Tuchel ahead of England’s upcoming Nations League fixtures against Spain, Czechia and Croatia.

Tavernier has scored three goals in four appearances under new Bournemouth head coach Marco Rose, strengthening a case that had already attracted attention from England staff towards the end of last season.

Tavernier’s goals have added another dimension to a player already valued for his energy, direct running and tactical flexibility.

His ability to operate across several attacking midfield positions could also work in his favour as Tuchel considers changes following England’s World Cup disappointment.

TEAMTalk reports that Tavernier was watched closely by England staff during his strong finish to last season and remains firmly on their radar after continuing that form during the opening weeks of the new campaign.

A selection would represent Tavernier’s first involvement with the senior national team.

Tavernier is not the only uncapped player being assessed as Tuchel considers refreshing his squad.

Bournemouth teammate Alex Scott is reportedly under consideration alongside Josh King and Jobe Bellingham. Brighton’s Jack Hinshelwood and Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are also said to be on England’s radar.

There is no guarantee that Tavernier will make the final squad, but his emergence as a candidate provides further evidence of how quickly his strong Bournemouth form has been noticed.

For Bournemouth, having Tavernier and Scott both discussed as potential England options would also represent recognition of the progress being made under Rose.
