Amar Dedic ruled out as Newcastle hand Tino Livramento fresh opportunity

Newcastle United will be without Amar Dedic against Hull City after Matthias Jaissle confirmed the right-back is unavailable through injury.

Dedic has established himself as Newcastle’s first-choice option on the right since arriving from Benfica, starting four Premier League matches ahead of Tino Livramento. He also registered an assist during the 2-0 victory over Tottenham.

However, the Bosnia international will not feature this weekend as Newcastle look to respond to their heavy defeat at Leeds.

“Amar will not be able to play on Saturday,” Jaissle told reporters on Thursday.

Jaissle did not provide further information about the nature of Dedic’s problem or indicate how long the defender could be unavailable.

That uncertainty leaves Newcastle waiting to discover whether his absence will extend beyond the Hull fixture.

Dedic had already emerged as an injury concern before the 4-1 defeat at Leeds, and losing him represents another setback for Jaissle during a challenging start to his Newcastle tenure.

His absence should nevertheless create an opportunity for Livramento.

The England international had his own fitness problems during the summer, returning home from the World Cup because of a calf injury. Dedic’s arrival and impressive start subsequently left Livramento behind the summer signing in the right-back hierarchy.

Saturday could now provide Livramento with an important opportunity to demonstrate what he can offer Jaissle.

Newcastle have undergone significant changes since the German replaced Eddie Howe, with Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon among the major departures.

Jaissle has also had to integrate several new arrivals while attempting to establish his own ideas at St James’ Park.

Results have been mixed. Newcastle collected one victory and two draws from Jaissle’s opening three Premier League matches before suffering their first defeat under him in emphatic fashion at Elland Road.

The Hull game therefore provides an immediate opportunity to respond — but Newcastle will have to do so without their first-choice right-back.

Newcastle will hope Dedic’s absence proves short-term, with further clarity over his condition likely to determine whether Livramento receives an extended run in the team.

For Jaissle, the immediate priority is producing a response against Hull after Newcastle’s first defeat of his tenure exposed significant problems at Elland Road.
