Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal has reportedly made it clear he has no intention of leaving the Camp Nou this summer despite attracting serious interest from several Premier League clubs.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have all monitored the highly-rated teenager in recent months, with the Gunners understood to have pushed hardest to convince him to move to England.

However, both Barcelona and the player remain united in their desire to continue together.

Arsenal led the Premier League interest

According to Mundo Deportivo, several clubs have contacted Barcelona to enquire about Bernal's situation after another encouraging season in Catalonia.

While Manchester United and Chelsea have both gathered information on the 19-year-old, Arsenal are described as the club that took their interest "most seriously".

The report claims all three Premier League clubs attempted to persuade Bernal to consider leaving Spain, although none progressed to submitting a formal offer.

That reluctance appears to reflect Barcelona's firm stance rather than a lack of interest.

Barcelona have no intention of selling

Bernal remains one of the club's most highly regarded academy graduates despite seeing his progress interrupted by a serious knee injury suffered in August 2024.

After returning to full fitness, he featured in 33 matches under Hansi Flick last season, contributing five goals and one assist while gradually rebuilding his place in the first-team squad.

Barcelona's confidence in the midfielder was underlined when they rewarded him with a new contract until 2029 shortly after his recovery.

Having followed Barcelona's handling of their brightest academy prospects, the contract extension was viewed as a clear statement that Bernal forms part of the club's long-term project. That position has not changed despite growing Premier League interest.

However, young players can face fierce competition for regular minutes at Barcelona, meaning continued speculation over Bernal's future is unlikely to disappear completely.

Player rejects Premier League advances

The report states Bernal has shown "absolute loyalty" to Barcelona by rejecting approaches from England.

Arsenal are believed to have made the strongest attempt to convince him, but the midfielder has remained committed to continuing his development at the Camp Nou.

Barcelona have also protected their position by including a €500 million release clause in his contract, making any transfer effectively impossible unless the club choose to negotiate.

With Bernal valued internally as one of the club's key long-term assets, there is currently little prospect of that happening.

What's next?

Bernal is expected to remain at Barcelona for the 2026/27 campaign as he looks to establish himself as a regular starter under Hansi Flick.

Meanwhile, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are likely to turn their attention towards alternative midfield targets after encountering firm resistance from both the player and Barcelona.

Should Arsenal keep pursuing elite young talents like Marc Bernal, or focus on players with a more realistic chance of leaving this summer?
