Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as possible Premier League destinations for Francisco Trincão as the Sporting attacker delays a decision on a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.

Al Ahli had appeared to be leading the race for the 26-year-old, with Sporting reportedly open to a deal worth around €50 million (£42.1m). The Saudi club are also prepared to quadruple Trincão’s current €2.5m net annual salary.

However, the Portugal international has now decided to take more time before choosing his next club.

Trincão delays decision on Al Ahli move

According to Record, Trincão wants a few days to consider his future following Portugal’s World Cup exit.

The winger has not rejected Al Ahli, but the possibility of remaining in Europe is still alive. That has opened the door for Manchester City and Tottenham to monitor developments.

Sporting’s position is strengthened by the €50m offer already on the table. Any Premier League club serious about signing Trincão may therefore need to match that valuation.

Manchester City move depends on Savinho

Manchester City’s interest reportedly depends on whether Savinho leaves this summer.

New manager Enzo Maresca is said to admire Trincão’s profile, while sporting director Hugo Viana knows the player well from their successful time together at Sporting.

However, City are not expected to make Trincão an active target unless Savinho departs.

That creates an interesting link with Tottenham, who have been heavily connected with a move for the Brazilian winger in recent months.

If Spurs sign Savinho, it could potentially open the door for City to move for Trincão.

Tottenham see Trincão as tactical fit

Tottenham’s interest appears more immediate.

Spurs reportedly believe Trincão could provide competition for Mohammed Kudus on the right while also covering a central attacking midfield role.

That versatility is particularly important because Xavi Simons is expected to remain sidelined until February, while James Maddison is still working his way back from a lengthy absence.

Trincão could therefore cover two areas of need in the Tottenham squad.

The main obstacle remains the price. Al Ahli are already prepared to pay €50m, giving Sporting little reason to accept a lower offer from England.

There is also some caution around the Premier League links. With Jorge Mendes involved, interest from City and Tottenham could potentially strengthen Trincão’s negotiating position with Al Ahli.

Key points

  • Manchester City and Tottenham are monitoring Francisco Trincão.
  • The Sporting attacker has delayed a decision on joining Al Ahli.
  • Sporting are reportedly open to a €50m transfer.
  • City would only consider a move if Savinho leaves.
  • Tottenham see Trincão as competition for Mohammed Kudus.
  • The 26-year-old can also cover attacking midfield.

What’s next?

Trincão is expected to decide his future after taking a few days to consider his options following the World Cup.

Al Ahli remain in the strongest position with a €50m offer, while Tottenham’s interest appears more immediate than City’s. Any Manchester City move is likely to depend on Savinho’s future first.

Should Francisco Trincão choose the Premier League over a lucrative move to Al Ahli?
