Southampton demand £30m for Shea Charles as three clubs circle

Southampton are reportedly demanding £30 million for Shea Charles as Leeds United face growing competition from Fulham and Crystal Palace.

The 22-year-old midfielder has become one of the most valuable players at St Mary’s after an impressive season, attracting serious Premier League interest.

Leeds have already seen two bids rejected, while Fulham and Crystal Palace have now joined the race.

Leeds have reportedly had offers worth £20m and £23m rejected during the opening month of the summer transfer window.

The Whites are no longer alone in their pursuit. Fulham and Crystal Palace are now interested, creating a potential transfer battle for the Northern Ireland international.

That growing competition has strengthened Southampton’s position as they look to maximise the value of one of their most important assets.

Charles joined Southampton from Manchester City three years ago in a deal reportedly worth up to £15m.

After previously impressing on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, he enjoyed a breakthrough season at St Mary’s and added more goals to his game.

The midfielder scored six times in all competitions, including a memorable FA Cup quarter-final winner against Arsenal on 4 April.

He also scored against Middlesbrough in the Championship play-off semi-final second leg, although Southampton’s play-off campaign was later overshadowed by the Spygate scandal.

Now a 35-cap Northern Ireland international, Charles has developed into a midfielder capable of attracting established Premier League clubs.

Fulham and Palace can both offer Charles a new challenge under recently appointed managers.

Álvaro Arbeloa is rebuilding at Craven Cottage, while Pierre Sage is preparing Palace for a season that will also include Europa League football.

That European opportunity could strengthen Palace’s position, although Leeds have already demonstrated the most concrete interest through their two rejected offers.

For Southampton, the situation is increasingly likely to depend on whether one of the interested clubs reaches the £30m valuation.

Given Charles’ age, international experience and potential, Saints have little reason to lower their demands while several clubs remain interested.

Leeds must decide whether to return with a third offer closer to Southampton’s £30m asking price.

Fulham and Crystal Palace could also make formal moves, increasing the pressure on Leeds to act. With several Premier League clubs now interested, Southampton appear prepared to wait for their valuation to be met.
