Manchester City could hand Enzo Fernandez an immediate debut when they face Coventry at the Etihad Stadium, following his £125million Deadline Day transfer from Chelsea.

Enzo Maresca has significant decisions to make after City's remarkable finish to the summer window. Fernandez arrived for a British transfer record-equalling fee, while Iliman Ndiaye completed a move from Everton worth up to £65m.

With £86m summer signing Ayyoub Bouaddi also competing for minutes, City's midfield options have been transformed ahead of Saturday's Premier League fixture.

Fernandez expected to start against Coventry

Fernandez is expected to move directly into Maresca's starting XI, potentially partnering Elliot Anderson in midfield.

That would bring an end to the recent experiment of using Marc Guehi as a defensive midfielder after he operated there against Bournemouth.

Guehi should instead return to central defence alongside Ruben Dias, with Abdukodir Khusanov expected at right-back and Josko Gvardiol completing the back four.

Ndiaye and Bouaddi could initially be restricted to places on the bench.

The increased competition also raises questions over the longer-term roles of Rayan Cherki and Phil Foden, although Cherki's impressive start to the campaign puts him in a strong position to retain his place against Coventry.

Doku remains unavailable for City

Maresca continues to be without Jeremy Doku, who is recovering from the calf injury he suffered against Arsenal in the Community Shield.

Matheus Nunes is also a doubt as he continues to work towards full fitness.

City could otherwise field a formidable attacking unit, with Antoine Semenyo, Cherki and Foden supporting Erling Haaland.

Predicted Man City XI: Donnarumma; Khusanov, Dias, Guehi, Gvardiol; Anderson, Fernandez; Semenyo, Cherki, Foden; Haaland.
